2023 Internet Usage Update
According to the Cisco Annual Internet Report, nearly two-thirds of the global population will have internet access by 2023, totaling 5.3 billion users. The number of devices connected to IP networks will be more than three times the global population by 2023, reaching 29.3 billion networked devices, with Machine-To-Machine (M2M) connections accounting for half of these connections. Within the M2M connections category, connected home applications will have the largest share at 48%, while connected car applications will experience the fastest growth, at a 30% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from 2018 to 2023. Global fixed broadband speeds are expected to more than double by 2023, reaching 110.4 Mbps. In the same period, mobile network connection speeds are projected to triple to 43.9 Mbps, with 5G connection speeds reaching 575 Mbps. By 2023, 5G devices and connections will account for over 10% of global mobile devices and connections.
